On November 7, 2015, we lost a very special person, sister, auntie, and friend. Kathryn (Katie/Kathy) Lowell Schulz was born in Yakima, WA, on February 13, 1949, to Floyd C Lowell and Evelyn Mullenneix Lowell. She attended grade school in Yakima and graduated Davis High School in 1967.
There are so many personal memories of her from each sibling and family member. Dolores, being the eldest, was always carrying her around on her hip. We could write a novel on our experiences from growing up to adulthood – having our children, the good times and not so good times, but always making the most out of everything. Growing up without life’s comforts, you appreciate the good things life offers.
Her brother Chuck will miss her, having lived in her home for many years, and waking her in the early morning to remind her it’s time for medication and companionship. Does it take a special brother and sister to live in the same house?! Katie had a disability of rheumatoid arthritis that affected her quality of live with severe pain for years.
Amy, her niece, has many memories of her aunt Kathy. She was a confidant that expressed her wisdom and opinion.
She worked in fruit warehouses over the years, holding many positions. She enjoyed camping, needle point and crocheting. She even entered her afghan in the fair one year and won a ribbon. She collected anything blue cobalt and lady powder boxes. When she was able, her pumpkin rolls and apple pies were done by request.
We will miss her loving, caring kindness to everyone, and her sweet smile. We will all hold you close in our hearts and thoughts always with love.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Schulz, on 12/2/06; her sisters, Ruth A Davis, on 1/8/12, and JoAnn G Lowell on 10/11/04. She is survived by her sons, Shawn Schulz of Port Townsend, along with his daughters, Heather and Tracy; Brian Schulz (Allison) of Ellensburg, and his children Samantha, Evelyn, Dakota, Jonathan, and step son Joshua. Her siblings are Dolores Whittle of Wapato, Bill Hoveland (Lona) of Moses Lake, John Hoveland (Bev) of Puyallup, Charles Lowell and Edward Lowell (Lisa) of Yakima.
She is also survived by special nieces, Flora Jones, of Longview; Kelly Andrews, of Clatskanie, OR; Amy Neil, of Yakima, and nephew, Charles Lowell Jr. (Stephanie) of Yakima. In addition, she has numerous nieces and nephews. Considered like a son, Joe Sutton was a good friend and neighbor. Also, are 2 special, girlhood friends (what excitement can we create now?!), Judy Kuhn and Charlotte Adams.
Special thanks to each and every one who cared for Katie in the last few months. You were each tender and caring – for that we are grateful.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015 at Langevin ∙ El Paraíso Funeral Home at 2 p.m. To share a memory of Katie, please visit www.lepfuneralhome.com.
