Jim D. Whitehead

The family moved to Washington in 1942, settling in Moxee City, WA where Jim received his education. He graduated in 1953 from Moxee High School along with his high school sweetheart Frances Brandon. They were married in a double ceremony with best friends Nettie and Ken Vails.

One of Jim’s fondest memories was when he was chosen as an All Star to turn out for the Yakima Bears. He hit a home run at Davis Football Field, knocking the ball over the fence. He was pretty proud of himself.

Jim was retired from Yakima County in 1996. He was a member and faithful servant at Summit View Church of Christ where he was an Elder and a Deacon.

Jim is survived by his wife Frances of 62 years; one son, Mike (Cathy) Whitehead of Yakima; three daughters, Debby (Anthony) Williams of Enumclaw, WA, Teri (Eric) Helberg of Oakridge, OR and Vicki (Darrick) Arnold of Milton Freewater, OR; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; one brother, Larry (Edith) Whitehead of Palouse, WA; two sisters of Wenatchee, WA, Darlene Clark and Dorothy Page; a sister-in-law, Rose McFarland of Toledo, WA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, a wonderful church family and an extended family, the Burch’s. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty Palmer, son Bill Whitehead, and a grandson, Brad Cunningham.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 4 pm, Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Summit View Church of Christ.
