James Joseph Jollie was born on May 3, 1936, in Belcourt, North Dakota. He was an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. He passed away on June 4, 2022 in Yakima, Washington.
Jim lived a long and joyful life, filled with achievement and love. He overcame many difficulties and brought great joy to his friends and family.
Jim’s family moved from North Dakota to Yakima, Washington in 1944. Jim joined the U.S. Marine Corps at age 17 and served in Korea and California. After duty with the Marines, Jim worked at many occupations including ranch hand (in Montana) and welder. Jim spent most of his working career as a professional commercial painter and was well respected in the Yakima area.
Jim was blessed with wonderful natural talents. He had a beautiful singing voice and ear for music. He was also a fabulous storyteller and a great entertainer. Family and friends enjoyed both talents immensely!
Jim was a friend of Bill W., enjoying over thirty years of sobriety and helping many others with their addiction. He strongly believed in God and life in the Spirit World.
Jim was pre-deceased by his mother and father, Virginia LaFrance Jollie and Robert O. Jollie. He was also pre-deceased by a sister, Virginia May Jollie and a brother John A. Jollie.
Jim is survived by two brothers, Edward Jollie and Robert Jollie and by three sisters, Karen Patnode, Colleen Jollie and Tara Jollie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and by his close companion Glenda Cunningham. All whom survive Jim loved him deeply. Whenever he would talk to any of them, he would start with “You’re my Favorite”.
