Gary G. Taylor age 75 of Yakima WA died peacefully December 31, 2017 at Cottage in the Meadow hospice care. Gary was born April 8, 1942 in Pasco WA to Glen (Bill) and Edith (Helen) Taylor. He was raised in the Tri Cities and completed his High School Education in Sunnyside WA with the Class of 1961. Gary was an all-around athlete competing in football, baseball, basketball, bowling and track.
Gary served in the United States Navy, Submarine Service from 1962 to 1966. He served aboard the USS Stonewall Jackson respecting his security clearance, never sharing any of the secret information he was made aware of in his position as Radio Operator.
Gary enjoyed playing pool, softball, bowling, camping and riding dirt bikes. Many hours were also spent attending the sporting events of his two sons. Gary was a single father to Mike until 1984 when he married Jeanne and they became a family of three. In 1985 they welcomed another son Matt. They bought their home in 1987 where their interests in remodeling the house and landscaping the yard became their hobby. He was a fan of the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks ball teams always dressing in team clothing and/or ball cap.
Gary worked 30 years at Marq Packaging in Yakima retiring in 2006 with a long list of “Honey Do’s”. Aided by his Nephew/Handyman Dave, they completed that ever growing list over a period of about 10 years.
Family was his top priority. He and Jeanne were married 33 years and called each other Daddy/Mommy often causing confusion for people they didn’t know, which was always a fun conversation. He was lovingly referred to as Uncle Butch by his many nieces and nephews. As Gary began having health issues, Jeanne was able to retire from work in 2015 to stay at home with him. Those last two years were a blessing to both as they cared for each other until his passing.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara. He is survived by his wife Jeanne; sons Mike of Helena MT (daughter Kai) and Matt (son Wyatt) of Pullman WA; sister, Sandy Bolshakoff of Tieton and many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at Keith & Keith Funeral Home, Friday, January 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service will follow at West Hills Memorial Park the same day at 1:00 p.m.
In the words of Augustus McCrae “It ain’t dying I’m talking about, its living. I doubt it matters how you die, it matters how you live.”
The family would like to thank the Dr.’s and Nurses of Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital, Crescent Health Care and Cottage in the Meadow hospice care who all took exceptional care of Gary in his last days.
