" A [good] name is better than precious oil; and the day of death, than the day of one’s birth" ~
Ecclesiastes 7:1
Doris served our Lord and lived a life of untarnished character. She was thoughtful and generous; she never forgot the birthday of a family member, friend, PEO sister, church member or co-worker. She kept every card she received. She donated without interruption to the church and to many charities. All remember Doris as being a lovely person; full of beauty and grace.
The eldest of two children, Doris was born in Chattanooga, TN on December 25, 1933, to parents Woodrow and Frances (Brown) Ireland. She graduated high school as valedictorian. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C., and it was on that campus she met her husband, E. Gordon Leavitt. They moved together to Boston, MA, Knoxville, TN, Ellensburg, WA and finally to Yakima, WA.
Gordon and Doris were married for 65 years and raised three children. They both were called to teach. Doris first was an English teacher, and later was Assistant Director of Admissions at Central Washington University and Yakima Valley College.
Doris loved traveling to many places around the world with Gordon. She spent hours reading and enjoyed playing board and card games. Her quick mind placed her often in the winning position.
Doris is survived by her husband, E. Gordon Leavitt; her sister, Joyce Cook; her children, Lisa (Eric) Moore, Lori Michele Leavitt, Wayne Leavitt; and six beloved grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Yakima Union Gospel Mission or American Bible Society.
Doris spent her life quietly supporting and celebrating so many of us who were in her life. Please join us to remember this remarkable woman. A funeral service for Doris will be held Friday, January 20, 2023, 11am PST at Grace of Christ, 9 S. 8th Ave., Yakima, WA.
Condolences may be left in the guestbook for Doris Ann Leavitt at keithandkeith.com.
