Born in Ray, Illinois to Newton and Alice (Robinson) Simpson, Doris married David L. Dean in 1938.
Doris and David had four children, Joyce Lane, Ronald Dean, Sandra Ward (Dennis) and Dan Dean, all of Yakima.
Doris and family lived in Augusta, Illinois and in 1957 moved to Pueblo and Fountain, Colorado. In 1963, the family moved to Selah and she has lived in Yakima for 46 years.
Doris was an outgoing person and made friends wherever she went. Over the years, she made many cherished friends through her work: McCormick’s Nursery and Payless Fabrics. She also had many beloved friends in her church family.
Doris was blessed with good health all of her life and maintained her health until the day she passed away suddenly at home at the age of 98.
She was an involved, joyful and caring mother. She made great meals for her family, grew a garden, baked her own bread, and was a talented seamstress. She was an avid reader and collected recipes, quilt blocks and crocheted doilies. Her family fondly recalls her tacos, her spicy meat sticks and homemade Christmas candy.
She brightened a room with her rosy, shining face and twinkling eyes. She was a joy to be around and her passing will leave a deep void in the family gatherings.
She had deep faith and read her bible daily. She kept her family in church and reminded us that she prayed for each one of us every day. We are comforted to know she is finally home and has joy unspeakable.
Besides her brother, sister and her four children, she is survived by 10 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and 2 grandsons.
Visitation will be Monday, September 23, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Keith & Keith Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at Terrace Heights Memorial Park on Tuesday, September 24 at 1:00 p.m.
