He was born to Oscar Skidmore & Helen Babb on March 21, 1941 in Hanford, CA. Cary grew up primarily in the Yakima Valley until he joined the Navy and served from 1956 to 1960, after which he worked fifteen years as a Buyer for Sears Roebuck in Los Angeles, CA.
On March 30, 1965, he married Lois and they began their beautiful life together that spanned 50 years. He moved his family back to the Yakima Valley in 1975. He purchased a 10-acre farm/orchard where he raised his family and enjoyed many gatherings with family and friends. During this time, and up to his retirement, he worked as the Business Manager for the Highland School District.
For all of us who love him, we remember him as a man who loved his family dearly. He was a free spirit who loved music (50’s style), and in his younger years loved to cut a rug when he got the chance. One way he’d show he loved you was to cook for you. Never using a recipe, he’d create masterpieces with his "secret herbs and spices," never to be duplicated (even by him). Cary would spend hours tending his garden growing prize sized tomatoes.
For him, it didn’t get better than a fishing trip. Over the years, he fished with his Mom, brothers, children, friends, and granddaughter Joanna who made trips to the Trout farm with her Papa.
He was also a great card player and loved to win pennies playing against his grandchildren at poker.
Cary loved animals, especially his dogs, so it’s fitting his favorite basketball team was the Gonzaga Bulldogs. He’d take trips to Vegas with his wife, son, and grandson to enjoy the tourney.
He enjoyed being a member of the Note of Joy Church where his brother Curtis is the pastor. He especially liked the Christmas "Bethlehem" program where he was a Candy Shopkeeper and made so many treats we’d have them around until summer.
Whether you called him Dad, Brother, Grandpa, Papa, Poppy, Uncle Cary, Papa Cary, or simply Cary, he had a gift of making everyone he loved feel special. We all loved him and will miss him more than words can adequately express.
Cary is survived by his wife Lois, and his brothers, children and grandchildren: Curtis Skidmore (Wanda), Kenny Henderson (Jan), Hershal Skidmore (Rebecca), Cari Lynn Beaver (Jeff), Jennifer Hackstadt (Steve), Christopher Skidmore (Dannette), Joanna Cook, Dustin Simonsen (Leann), Kristine Smith (Larry), TJ Cooper (Abbey) and great grandchildren Evan, Erin, Katelyn, Peyton, Ethan, Skye and Cruz.
Cary was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Skidmore; mother, Helen Babb; brother, Carl Skidmore and daughter Marci Cooper.
