Betty (Carl) Dahl passed away December 30, 2018 at Cottage in the Meadows after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Harrah, Washington to Fred and Clara (Courville) Carl on February 26, 1929 and baptized as Elizabeth Zane Carl.
In 1945, she married Bruce Morrison. They had four children during their thirty year marriage. She went on to marry Clarence Bridges, who developed cancer and died after twelve years. She then married Jack Shrode who in turn passed away from cancer after five and a half years. Ruben Dahl then persuaded her to marry him and he passed away after only a year and a half from cancer.
Betty was preceded in death by her six siblings; two sons Dale and David Morrison; one granddaughter, Parness a Morrison and two grandsons, Derek and Aaron Gamache. She is survived by two of her children: Clara (Michael) Gamache and Donald Morrison; granddaughters Dacia (Tim) Kerns, Bernadine Morrison and grandson John David Morrison and great-grandchildren Raddek Kerns, Kale & Lily Gamache as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She leaves behind one sister-in-law, Betty (John) Carl.
Known as the "Dancing Queen", her dance card was always full! She leaves behind her dance partner and significant other Ken A. Schwarzwalter. Many hours were spent twirling around the dance floor at the Harman Center. She was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Eagles Auxiliary. Second only to her dance skills were her love of playing pinochle and baking. Those fortunate enough to receive a huckleberry pie from her can attest to that! She loved the mountains and picked huckleberries every year, including as an eighty-nine year old.
After retiring from DSHS at the age of 65 Betty devoted even more time to being a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. Always there to offer a helping hand she expected nothing in return. She was able to dance daily while spending winters in Arizona, traveled to Canada for Polka dances, made trips to Italy, Mexico and Hawaii with girlfriends. She never lost her zest for life, remaining "spunky" to the end. She will be missed all those privileged to spend time with her.
If desired, donations may be made to LaSalle High School or Cottage in the Meadow in her memory.
A Vigil Service will be held 5 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church with a Mass of Christian Burial being held at 10:30 on Friday, January 4, also at Holy Family Catholic Church. Private burial will be held at Terrace Heights Memorial Park at a later date.
