Thomas John Tansky, age 76, passed away Saturday afternoon April 20,2024 at his home in Powell, Ohio following a long illness. Tom was born May 26, 1947 in Logan, Ohio to the late John and Marian (Morgan) Tansky. He was a 1965 graduate of Logan High School and a 1970 graduate of Ohio University earning a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.
Tom married the love of his life, Judith Ann Wilson, of New Straitsville, Ohio on January 23,1971 in St. John Catholic church in Logan. They remained together and devoted themselves to each other for over 53 years.
Upon his college graduation, Tom moved to Columbus and began working at one of his father’s Toyota dealerships, then known as Toyota of Columbus, on North High Street in Clintonville. He soon moved into management and was instrumental in the growth of the dealership and the move to its current location on Sawmill Road. Tom served for many years as President and Dealer Principal of Tansky Sawmill Toyota until his eventual retirement for health reasons.
Tom and Judy settled in Worthington, where they raised their children, before moving to Powell in 1995. Tom was an active, loving Father and Grandfather and was known as “Baba” to his Grandchildren.
Tom was an adventurer by nature. He enjoyed numerous excursions with his friend, Richard Moss, and others, which included mountain climbing in California and white water rafting down the Colorado River. Tom had a constant thirst for knowledge throughout his life. He had a passion for reading and was known to have his head “buried in a book” from a very young age. He was always interested in the latest technology whether it was radar detectors, personal computers, satellite dishes, or artificial intelligence. Tom was quite the foodie in his day; he was always eager to try new restaurants. Some of his favorite cuisines were Indian and Asian, and he could never resist a piece of tiramisu.
Tom is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy Tansky; Son, Nate Tansky (Scott Treadwell) of Upper Arlington; Daughter Katie Tansky (Slate Ribic) of Worthington; Grandsons Parker Ribic and Henry Ribic; Sisters Connie Drake and Sue (Bob) Crunelle; Brothers: Joe Tansky, Stanley Tansky and Todd (Charlene) Tansky; Brother-in-law Tom (Sharon) Wilson; Aunt: Helene Namour, Uncle: Sherman Histed. Tom is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
