Ruth Guldenzopf (Hansen), of Ashland OH, passed away on July 7, 2022. She was born on July 27, 1940, in Chicago Illinois to Wallace Hansen and Bernice Hansen (Yanzito). Ruthie and her sister Lynne spent many delightful summers swimming and boating with their parents and friends in Lake Geneva, WI.
Ruth graduated from Foreman High School and then attended Augustana College in western Illinois where she met her future husband, Charles Guldenzopf. She graduated with a Bachelors in English and later received her Master’s degree. They eventually settled in Ashland, OH. She went on to a 30 year-plus career as an English professor at North Central Technical College in Mansfield, OH where she spent her time educating and mentoring young people.
Ruthie developed a keen passion for exploring spirituality later in life and spent lots of time traveling to seminars and attending eastern spiritual conferences. Over the years she was active with the League of Women Voters and spent time raising money and campaigning for the Democratic Party. She was an avid philanthropist supporting numerous charities including Compassion International, Doctor’s Without Borders, Feeding America, South Florida PBS, ASPCA Guardian, and Heifer International.
Ruth will be greatly missed by her beloved sister Lynne Hansen, brother-in-law Jerry Lasarow, children Jon and Erik Guldenzopf, daughter-in-law Suzann Guldenzopf, grandchildren Jack and Phoebe Guldenzopf and numerous extended family and friends. During retirement she was a snowbird and split her time between Ashland and Pompano Beach FL and had many friends whose lives she touched in both Central Ohio and Florida.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, July 23 at 1:00 pm at White Lily Chapel at 20 S Main St., Ashley OH 43003 north of Columbus. A celebration of life will follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the White Lilly Chapel or the American Cancer Society.
