Rita A Jones

Rita Ann Jones, age 78 of Kettering died June 16, 2024. Preceded in death by her parents, Albert L. Osterday and Emma J. Hessman Osterday, her brothers, Robert & Joseph Osterday Sr, Her sister Mary Kolasinski, Daughter, Jennifer L Jones Crossley, and good friend, Jinny Husman.

They had many good times together in Girl Scouting and many laughs especially concerning concert tickets, Survived by her husband of 57 years, Frank A Jones, their son Jeffery A Jones and his wife Darla, her daughter’s husband, Michael Crossley, the love and light of her life, her two grandchildren, Emma and John Jones, And numerous nieces and nephews.

Rita was a licensed practical nurse who worked in the emergency room at Good Samaritan Hospital for several years. Following the birth of Jennifer and Jeffery, she was active in their school PTA and in Girl Scouts. In the process of nurturing her children, she was a Girl Scout troop leader for 12 years, helping Jennifer an others achieve their silver and gold awards. She also served on the Suburbia Neighborhood Service Team for 13 years, serving in many positions as a consultant to troop leaders. She served as a co-neighborhood chairperson with Linda Fischer for 2 years. In addition, she assisted with the suburbia day camp held every summer at Camp Greene for 13 years. Through those years, she served as a unit leader, business manager, and finally as site director for 2 years.

When Jeffery was active in Boy Scouting she served as a co-cub scout leader for a year and a co-webelos leader for 2 years; also as time passed she had the pleasure of helping Jeffery attain the rank of Eagle Scout.

As the children fled the nest, she worked at Meijer’s 102 as a baker for 6 years.

She spent many years enriching the lives of her grandchildren and offered much love and support to the whole family.

I wish to make a special acknowledgment of gratitude to Dr. Robert Raju and his associates and entire staff of Dayton Oncology and Hematology/ Greater Dayton Cancer Center and also to the members and support staff of the Kettering Hospital Lymphoma and Leukemia support group, sponsored by the Lymphoma and Leukemia society.

She hopes in some small way, she has helped to make this world a little bit better of a place to live in for those whose lives she has touched. She loves you all, peace.

In keeping with Rita’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Following cremation, Rita will be interred at Union Cemetery in Columbus, OH.
