Nancy was born on March 10, 1933, in Rochester, New York, daughter of Richard (Nick) Albee and Elizabeth Albee. She graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1951. Following high school, Nancy attended and graduated from The State Agricultural and Technical Institute at Alfred State College. She was a member of the Alpha Beta Chi sorority.
It was at Benjamin Franklin High School where she met Art Haimerl. They married in Rochester, New York on September 12, 1959.
In 1965, with three little boys in tow, Nancy and Art headed to Columbus, Ohio in their Ford Falcon. Art had accepted the position of Pastor at Ascension Lutheran Church, at the time a small church on Karl Road. Settling in Worthington Estates, they would remain in the same home for 48 years, raising their family and enjoying the community in their retirement.
Nancy waited until her children were settled in elementary school before taking a position as School Secretary at Worthington Hills Elementary where she worked for twenty-three years, then a similar position at Perry Middle School where she worked for seven additional years.
Nancy was the first face you would see when you entered the building and approached the office. She helped teachers navigate their way through their busy days and supported the principals, administration, and nurses. Most importantly, she helped the many students that passed through the schools, touching their lives, and treating them like her own children. This was a perfect role for Nancy, who was so kind to everyone she met, no matter the time or place or circumstance.
Ascension Lutheran Church was a big part of her family and her life. On Alter Guild for many years, she loved decorating the alter, especially during Easter and Christmas. Her artistic touch and love of painting, flowers, and crafts began years ago with her mother. Together, they crafted a wide range of artistic creations for local craft shows, bazaars and church events. This instilled a lifelong passion of art and creativity.
Nancy loved her pets growing up and throughout her lifetime. She had a fondness for animals of all shapes and sizes. She also enjoyed traveling with family and friends and loved all the wonderful Walt Disney characters. The Magic Kingdom was one of her favorite destinations. Standing on the bridge in front of Cinderella’s magic castle is where Nancy and Art rang-in the new Millennium.
Nancy will be remembered most by her incredibly inviting smile and kind personality. She loved her family and loved being a daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother.
Nancy is survived by her sons Mark (Lorene), Scott (Cheryl) and Todd; grandchildren Austin and Chase, Olivia and Carly, Alexander and Molli; nephew Rob Crowley (Carol); great-nephews Daniel, Alexander and James.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 53 years; Reverend Dr. Arthur F. Haimerl (Pastor Art).
