Maggie Butler, 40, of Columbus, Ohio passed away May 18th, 2024 after an over 9-year battle with DSRCT sarcoma cancer. Maggie was a true warrior, battling every day for more time with her beautiful children and undergoing clinical trials to help provide better options for future warriors. Maggie will be remembered for her smile, her honesty, her indominable spirit and strength, and her ability to connect with all people.
Maggie was born September 27th, 1983 in Cleveland, Ohio. Maggie graduated from North Ridgeville High School in 2001 and attended The Ohio State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Hospitality Management. Before becoming a full time DSRCT warrior Maggie worked in hotels (most recently the Hilton Columbus) where she created memorable events for others and met many of her very best friends.
Maggie had a passion for helping others and expressed that through volunteer work at Hawthorne Elementary School. As a multi-term PTA president, she created and led various fundraising events, planned fun activities for the students, and made lifelong friendships with the teachers and staff. Maggie’s “Bubble Run” fundraiser lives on and has raised thousands to enrich the lives of students.
Her interests were many and included travelling and planning trips, everything Walt Disney World, spending time with her children and husband, and of course the Backstreet Boys.
Maggie had an ever-expanding list of important people in her life. She was married to Don Butler on January 26th, 2008 and together they have two exceptional children, Liam (12) and Sadie (9) who were the greatest joy of her life. She leaves behind her beloved parents Carol (Kives) Falcone and Paul Falcone, wonderful brother Colin Ryan, and fantastic step-siblings Cassidy (Falcone) Dolan and Zach Falcone. Maggie also shared a special bond with the family dog, Oreo. Her loving maternal grandmother Ilse Kives of Olmsted Township, Ohio continues to provide her love and her much beloved grandfather Oscar Kives preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by grandparents Joseph and Margaret Ryan of Vermillion, Ohio. Maggie also had a special bond with her mother and father-in-law Julie and Donnie Butler as well as Jamie and Matt Overholt, her loving sister-in-law and brother-in-law.
Extended family was an important part of Maggie’s life and she leaves behind aunts, uncles and cousins too numerous to list. Her family was central to her life and remained by her side throughout her journey.
Maggie’s list of friends is never ending but we would be remiss if we did not mention Katy and Mike Balyeat, Andy Blackaby, Mike and Sara Hric, Shane Calkin and Dan Mize as sources of considerable strength and support throughout both tough and joyous times.
A memorial celebration and sharing for Maggie will be held Saturday, May 25, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Schoedinger Worthington, 6699 N High Street, Worthington, OH 43085. Open and informal sharing of stories and memories will begin at 2:00pm
