James C. Myers passed away on July 9 at age 88. He was born to the late James C. and Martha D. Myers in Pittsburgh, PA on June 2, 1935 and moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1944. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, James F. Myers, and sister, Martha L. Myers. Jim’s active career in choral music began in 1946 when he joined the Columbus (later American) Boychoir. His musical career spanned over 50 years including 36 years at Franklin Heights High School and 12 as founder and conductor of The Cecilian Singers of Columbus. He also conducted the Nationaires and McConnell Chorus and often sang tenor solos with various groups. He rose to the rank of Colonel in the Ohio National Guard and the U. S. Army Reserve, retiring after commanding the 593rd Engineer Battalion in the Guard and the 364th Engineer Group in The Army Reserve. He is survived by his wife of almost 41 years, Carol Bishop Myers, and his children Jon (Renee) Myers, Philip (Lori) Myers, and Amy (Terry) Tibbals. He loved his grandchildren Jennifer (Daniel) Guerra, Emily (Will) Barrett, Max Myers, and Emily, Katie and Liz Tibbals and great grandchildren Dylan, Myers, Julian and Mia Guerra and Olive and Austin Barrett. He will be sorely missed by his family, students, friends and church family. A memorial service will be held at Schoedinger Worthington, 6699 N. High St., on Saturday, August 12 at 11:00 am with calling hours one hour before and after the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
