Gerald Knott

Gerald (Jerry) Knott, age 79, slipped the surly bonds of earth on Saturday, January 14, 2023. While we carry heavy hearts at this time, we are forever grateful we were given the gift of his life and his love.

Jerry was born on July 16, 1943, in Dale, Indiana. He grew up in Bainbridge, OH, and attended Paint Valley High School where he graduated as Valedictorian and a 3 sport captain. After high school, Jerry entered the United States Naval Academy as a member of the Class of '66. Upon graduation, he completed flight school, became an A7 pilot, and served in Vietnam while stationed in Lemoore, CA. He went to train new pilots in Pensacola, FL and his final tour of duty was as the Executive Officer of the ROTC unit at The Ohio State University. Jerry loved flying, the Navy, the lifelong camaraderie of military service, and his country. His 20-year military career came to a close in 1985 when he retired with the distinguished rank of Commander.

Upon retirement, Jerry enjoyed a long and successful career as a Wealth Manager in Columbus, OH.

He loved his wife, recently celebrating 50 years of marriage. He adored his family and was incredibly proud of his children and their families. Traveling, golfing, and making people laugh were his favorite hobbies and he cherished the many close friendships he made along the way. His spirit and the joy he brought to the world will live on through the countless stories that will continue to be shared by his family and friends about his extraordinary life.

He was predeceased by his brother, William, and his father, Bernard. He is survived by his devoted wife, Darra, his children Ashley, Brent (Megan) and Matthew (Ashley), his granddaughters Hadley and Gemma, his sister, Karin Diekmann (John) and his mother Juanita Brougham.

Jerry's services will be held on Saturday, Feb 18 at 3pm at the Schoedinger Worthington funeral home with a celebration of life to follow at the Worthington Hills Country Club.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wounded Warriors or Tunnel to Towers foundations.
