Gayle graduated from Portsmouth High School and attended The Ohio State University. Following college, he worked full time for Reynolds and Reynolds Accounting Systems. During this time he also worked part time for Kroger and later full time for Kroger, working his way up to produce manager. Gayle was a dedicated and loyal worker, having worked for Kroger for 56 years before his retirement.
When Gayle was not working, he loved to travel. He travelled extensively throughout the United States in his Chevy Suburban and pop-up tent with his wife and his children. Over the years, they travelled to all fifty states and all throughout the world. In addition to travelling, Gayle loved to fish and enjoyed his time boating and fishing on Hoover Reservoir. He also loved to golf and one of his recent highlights was being able to walk the St. Andrews course in Scotland. In his younger years, Gayle was a soccer and baseball coach for his children’s sports teams. Gayle also enjoyed listening to music with his favorite genre being 1950’s rock and roll. He was an active member of Church of the Good Shepherd United Methodist.
Gayle was an avid gambler and enjoyed horse racing. He would spend Saturday evenings at the Scioto Downs with his brother, Kenny, and attended the Little Brown Jug horse race which took place at the Delaware County Fair every year.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Paula; children, Joe (Nancy Andreano) Nourse, Tim (Beckie) Nourse, Patrick Nourse, and Josh (Becky) Nourse; grandchildren, Lauren, Mick, Remington, Cora Gayle, and Maddox; brother, Kenny (Sandy) Nourse; nephew and nieces, Kevin, Kelly, and Christy and their families; and sister-in-law, Lynn Jurkowitz.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 5, 2022, from 11-1 at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 6176 Sharon Woods Blvd, Columbus OH, 43229. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gayle’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.
