Daniel Z. Musgrave, 65, of Lewis Center, Ohio, loving husband and father of five, died of natural causes on December 8, 2022, in Sheridan, Wyoming, while returning home from the hunt of his life. Born in 1957 in Columbus, Ohio, and spending much of his childhood in Orange County, California, he was the son of the late Thomas William and Donna LaVerne Robbins Musgrave. In his later years, Dan spent a majority of his time at his beloved lake home in Oak Harbor, Ohio. Dan graduated from Whetstone High School in 1975 where he was senior-year captain of the football team. Dan was a skilled carpenter and successful businessman, and in 1978 founded Musgrave Construction, a custom home building and remodeling company that was the focus of his career.
Dan had many passions. Beyond his fierce devotion to family and friends, his next love was Ohio State football. Dan was a Buckeye fan from childhood, and his dedication and love for the team always burned bright. He was an avid angler and hunter. Dan delighted in catching perch and walleye on Lake Erie, and often traveled the country on hunting and fishing expeditions. His zeal for duck hunting led him to his love of hunting dogs, especially his Labrador retrievers. He was known as an expert dog trainer, and the labs he bred were eagerly sought after by fellow hunters.
Dan will be remembered as being the life of the party, always going above and beyond to make people laugh, and as a gregarious host, making the most decadent Bloody Mary’s and the perfect fried fish. A man with a huge heart, he was renowned for making fast friends with anyone he met. He demonstrated to family and friends how to talk to people, how to strike up a conversation with a stranger, and the generosity of inviting people in. Everyone who knew him knew those were some of his greatest skills. His devotion to friends was experienced far and wide. Dan was a loving and supportive presence in countless lives and father-figure to many.
He is survived by wife Susan Jamie Musgrave, siblings, Cheryl Musgrave, David Musgrave and wife Sheri, and Michael Musgrave, children Thomas Musgrave and wife Chrissy, Nicole Musgrave and partner Tarence Ray, Brian Musgrave and wife Kennedy, Amanda Musgrave and fiancé Daniel Langhirt, and Kevin Musgrave and wife Madison, grandchildren, Kelsey Musgrave, Daniel Musgrave, Chandler Musgrave and a precious, waiting-to-be-born grandson Musgrave. He will be forever missed and loved.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 20, 2022, 3-6 PM with service immediately following at 6 PM at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High St., Worthington, OH.
