Cherrie is survived by her brother Howard and his wife Pearl in Twisp, Washington, members of her mother’s family in Oklahoma, cousins from her father’s side in Ohio with whom she shared life as children and adults. She also leaves behind a beloved god-daughter, Lynley Ledger, and her parents, lifelong friends of Cherrie’s.
Cherrie began her love of travel at just a few months of age. Her father was stationed in Oklahoma, and her mother Dorothy was determined that he saw his new daughter. Dorothy and her sister-in-law Betty saved their gasoline ration coupons and drove from Ohio to Oklahoma on war weary tires. Later travels took Cherrie as far as Russia and China.
From family and Sunday School teachers, Cherrie learned the importance of loving Jesus and loving others. Cherrie’s favorite aunt, Millie, modeled this through her life as a nurse. Cherrie decided to care for others by becoming a nurse, as well. After studying to become an R.N. at Ohio State, Cherrie compassionately cared for patients at Riverside Hospital for more than 40 years. Even now the name Cherrie Cherrington is recognized and her work praised.
Above all, Cherrie was committed to family, including her extended family. She was there at every gathering and reunion, and she was only a phone call away when needed. When her vibrant mother fell victim to Alzheimer’s, Cherrie added onto her home to create a safe, welcoming place for her mother to live.
Parkinson’s took a lot from Cherrie, but it did not take her faith. She was confident that her life was in God’s hands and she looked forward to eternal life with her savior. On Monday morning, Cherrie heard a voice, turned her head, opened her eyes, smiled and was gone. The promise of Easter is real. Cherrie has seen it and now lives in that promise.
On Sunday April 6th, there will be a gathering of friends held at Hope Church, 75 E. Schrock Rd. in Westerville, from 2 – 3 o’clock with a service at 3.
We want to thank the Care 360 Hospice team for all they did to love and care for Cherrie in her last months. In lieu of flowers, may we suggest a donation to Care 360 Hospice.
