

Born on July 21, 1934, in Springfield, Massachusetts, Phil was the son of the late Philias D. Fontaine and Evelina Labreque.
He dedicated much of his life to service, retiring from the United States Air Force after a distinguished career. In his military life, Phil shared his knowledge and passion for aviation as a flight instructor, inspiring many. During his service, he demonstrated remarkable perseverance and determination, balancing the demands of military life with his pursuit of higher education. In a testament to his commitment to personal growth and professional excellence, Phil earned an engineering degree in construction management while serving. His time in service was marked by great sacrifice, and he was recognized for his unwavering commitment to duty, completing multiple missions in Vietnam.
Phil was a man of many talents and interests. He was particularly proud of the home he designed and built with his beloved wife, Ann, where they shared many cherished memories. An avid lover of history, politics, and science, Phil was always eager to engage in thoughtful discussions and expand his knowledge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons—Philip Charles Fontaine Jr. and Douglas Charles Fontaine—and his sisters, Pearl Swett, Doris Jerrold, and Irene Fountain.
Phil is lovingly survived by his wife of many years, Ann Fontaine; son, Nick Fontaine; daughter, Monique Dutton; five grandchildren, Julia (Brian) Harsh, James Marrone, Philip Fontaine III, Mariah Fontaine, and Winter (Nickolas) Anderson, as well as one great-grandchild, Henry Anderson.
Phil's legacy of love, strength, and wisdom will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Phil will be laid to rest on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 1:00pm at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, Georgia, with military honors.
