Mr. Mark McCarthy, 77, of Marietta, GA passed away on September 19, 2021. Mark was born on August 18, 1944 in New Orleans, LA. He graduated from Jesuit High School. Growing up in New Orleans, he would always tell us how he would walk through the swamps and fight off alligators to get to school, so we had it pretty good. Mark fought as an Army Lieutenant in the Vietnam War. After he served, he enjoyed traveling in his 1972 VW Campmobile, which he happily leaves behind to his children and grandchildren. When you see us riding around town in the orange camper, give us a honk! In his retired years, he worked as a clerk at QuikTrip. He loved chatting with friends and meeting new people there! Mark enjoyed working on endless projects around his house, using his children as his handy assistants. He spread his wealth of knowledge to his family and made sure things were done right. Mark was an avid skier and turned his daughter into one as well! Even in his 70s, he would dominate the mountains of Colorado (at least he thought he did). He loved being a grandpa and spoiled his grandchildren, letting them get away with things his children would never be allowed to do! Left to cherish his memory are his children, Alex McCarthy and Allison Johnson (husband, John); grandchildren, Joshua McCarthy, Avery, Wesley and Reid Johnson; siblings, Maureen Helinski, Matthew McCarthy, and extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Marjorie McCarthy; brother, Michael McCarthy; and wife, Jean McCarthy.
The family will have a gathering in honor of Mark on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Woodstock Funeral Home, 6655 Main Street, Woodstock GA 30188. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org, in memory of Mark.
