Mrs. Lonnie Ree Cooper was born July 4, 1932 in Sardis, Alabama to Josephine Hatcher Moore and Otis McGuire. She was raised in Sardis, Alabama by her grandmother Dora Hatcher; along with her siblings Hazel, Dorothy, Peter, Fred, Booker T. (Mose) and Jimmy.
Lonnie joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Sardis, Alabama at a young age and graduated from Shiloh High School. She met the love of her life, John Wallace Cooper in Sardis, Alabama. Lovingly, Lonnie joked about their relationship - saying she felt sorry for John and married him. Lonnie and John were married for 58 years until her homegoing.
In 1953 Lonnie and John relocated to Boston Massachusetts where they raised their four children - Yvonne, John Jr., Alonzo and Ronnie. While in Massachusetts, Lonnie worked at Massachusetts General Hospital as a Research Assistant.
As a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Lonnie was actively involved as an usher and a member of the Women' Society Committee.
She enjoyed shopping, sewing, reading, cooking, traveling, caring for her grandchildren and being with her husband John. Lonnie was pleasant, funny, warm and charming. Lonnie was a true jewel both internal and external; as she treasured family, hosting family dinners, holiday events and always open to helping others.
In 1994, Lonnie and John relocated to Marietta, Georgia and joined Turner Chapel AME Church. They attended regularly until her health began to decline.
Lonnie was involved in every aspect of her grandchildren's life and provided unconditional love to them all. Her love for her grandchildren was insurmountable.
Lonnie was cared for by her immediate family and supportive husband up until her death. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, John W. Cooper, daughter, Yvonne Cooper-Williams(James) of Marietta, Georgia, son Alonzo Cooper (Pamela) of Boston, Massachusetts, son John Jr. Cooper of Boston, Massachusetts, and Ronnie Cooper (Ayanna) of Dallas, Georgia.
Sisters: Lula Stoudemire of Haywood, California, Farrie Edwards of Stockton, California and Mary Welch of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Grandchildren: Marquis Nelson, James (Jay) Williams, Denise Garrett, Leah Williams, Teneal Cooper, Ronnie Cooper, Alonzo Jemeal Cooper and Breanna Cooper. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and great-grandchildren to continue her legacy.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Josephine Moore, Father, Otis McGuire and siblings Gracie Raines, Hazel H. Barge, Dorothy Hatcher-Mitchell, William " Bubba" Moore, Joe Nathan (Mose) Hatcher, Fred Hatcher and Booker T. Hatcher.
