He was born on Sunday, March 4, 1928, in Jasper, Georgia, to Howard and Peairlee (Grizzle) Mulkey.
Herdis was a wonderful and loving husband to his wife, Lois, for 78 years. He raised his family in Smyrna, GA while working as a truck driver for The Motor Convoy Company for 40 years. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and boating on Allatoona and Lanier Lakes. After moving to Acworth, GA and retiring, he loved spending time in his yard making sure bushes and shrubs were nice and tidy, and ensuring his yard was always clean. Herdis had a good sense of humor and would share that with family and friends especially when he was cooking on the grill. He even earned the title “Grill Master” from those closest to him. When he wasn’t grilling ribs or working in the yard, Herdis enjoyed drives in his red, 1966 Mustang convertible, in which he and Lois shared many travel adventures through north Georgia.
In addition to his parents, Herdis is preceded in death by his brothers, G.T. Mulkey, and Hoyt Mulkey; and by his sister, Pat Harrison.
Herdis is lovingly survived by his wife, Lois Mulkey; sons, Ronnie (Melody) Mulkey, and Lanny (Kimberly) Mulkey; daughter, Brenda Lloyd; six grandchildren, Lee, Jake, Jessup, Ovi, Sherman, and Eli. He is also survived by four great grandchildren, Parker, Anna, Georgia and Cianna, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 10:00am to 12:00pm, at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, Georgia 30188.
