on April 8, 1927, in Aridea of Pella, North of Thessalonica,
Greece. Lucky passed away on April 12, 2024, at 97 years of age.
Lucky Conti immigrated from Greece and became a
successful businessman while living in New York City. He
remained close to his roots as he had business interests and a
country home that he enjoyed staying in Volos, Greece. Lucky is
survived by his wife Vanie Conti and two lovely children Lucky Jr.
and Pinina who are twins of 8 years old. Lucky outlived his
brother, Konstantinos Kontis, his only younger brother, who sadly
also just passed away one (1) day before Lucky did.
Lucky decided to expand his family first by marrying
Vanie Conti on November 12, 1999, and later when he had his
twin children on February 10, 2016. When he let others know
about his children, he truly appreciated the blessing by exclaiming,
“I cannot thank Jehovah enough for giving me two children!” Lucky
even extended his help to Vanie’s mother and two brothers.
Many remembered Lucky as a very generous and honest
man. Even as his health declined Lucky did not want to bother
others and often said he ‘didn’t need any help’. He always tried to
do things himself. He was a persistent and often stubborn man–
who did not want to use a walker or wheelchair, simply because it
would add work to others. His wife and caretakers often said, “We
would have to fight him to use the walker or wheelchair.”
This was the kind of man Lucky was. He always thought
of others and was described as being “Very caring, very
supportive, and it didn’t matter what others felt he needed, he
wanted to support financially, emotionally – he was just that - very
supportive.” Simply put by many, he was “Honest, caring, a very
fine person.” On several occasions when he was feeling ill on his
bed, he asked Vanie, his wife, to make sure she continued to take
good care of Mengjur, her brother, whom he was fond of as he
spent many hours caretaking Lucky along with Lucky Jr. and
Pinina.
Lucky learned about Jehovah’s Witnesses several
decades ago, and it was only later in his later life that he decided
to dedicate his life to become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He
initially enjoyed visits and discussing the Bible, but he was
reluctant to have a regular study with the Witnesses. He
specifically mentioned to the Witness who visited regularly, “You
will be the first to know once I’m ready to have a regular Bible
study”. He was a man of his word! A few years later just as he told
him, Lucky called the brother whom he was acquainted with and
asked for a regular Bible study.
When speaking with Vanie, his wife, she asked
Lucky, “You are Greek, why are you deciding to become a
Jehovah’s Witness?” Lucky told her that before becoming a
Jehovah’s Witness, he was part of a church in Manhattan,
and he was responsible for handling their finances. However,
as he became acquainted with Jehovah’s Witnesses, he
noticed a vast difference–they do what the Bible ‘actually’
says. As Lucky learned Bible Truths, he himself said he could
not belong to an organization who did not follow the truth
found in the Bible. Lucky deepened his love for Jehovah and
was always generous and ready to show his appreciation. He
ultimately displayed this publicly by eventually becoming one
of Jehovah’s Witness at nearly the age of 95, when he was
baptized on February 5, 2022.
Lucky had the chance to visit World Headquarters on
multiple occasions and was even able to find Khmer
(Cambodian Language) speaking brothers to speak to his
wife who is from Cambodia. Coincidentally, on one of the
visits, there was a large group of Americans speaking Khmer,
which caught Vanie’s attention. When Vanie asked why they
were speaking the Khmer language and what was such a
large group was doing in New York, they let her know that
they had just joined the first US Cambodian Convention and
were now visiting headquarters. Vanie was surprised and
Lucky along with her were delighted to see the interest in
people of all nations that Jehovah’s Witnesses display
Many recount studying the Bible with Lucky and they
said he had such a sharp memory, citing scripture upon
scripture. ‘He had poor eyesight, but a mind as sharp as a
tack’, some have described. He loved Jehovah, his family and
always took good care of them. We will miss him dearly!
During times of loss like this, we keenly feel the
sting that accompanies the death of a loved one.
Nevertheless, we eagerly anticipate the moment when we
will once again share smiles with Lucky and witness the
‘last enemy death, being brought to nothing.’ – 1 Cor. 15:26
