Charles Frederich Stevens Passed away on December 12, 2012; at the age of 90. Charles was born On August 23, 1922 in New York City, N.Y. to Charles J. and the former Helen Emma Ehrenstein. Charles grew up in Queens with a large family, He is predeceased by his brothers Edward & Richard and sisters Evelyn, Corrine and Joan; and survived by his Loving sisters Ethel, Ruth, Jean, and Helen.
Charles served his country during World War II between 1940 and 1945 where he attained the rank of Private First Class in the 165th Medical Detachment and served as a Surgical Technician and was awarded several medals including a Purple Heart, the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic–Pacific Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Charles had a loving relationship and marriage with Madeline who passed away in December of 1979; Madeline blessed him with 7 children, Charles was predeceased by 3 of his children Gary, Mark and Gale. Charles was also blessed to have a second love in his life with his marriage to Kathleen (nee Kinny) who passed away earlier in 2012.
After the war Charles had 2 careers he worked as a Brakeman for the Long Island Railroad until his retirement and then he worked as a Doorman at 157 East 57th Street for 40 years up until his retirement at the age of 87.
Charles is also survived by his beloved children Charles J and his wife Julia, Glen W., June A. and Raymond as well as 9 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at David Funeral Home Located in the Quinn Memorial Building 35-20 Broadway, Long Island City, N.Y. on Sunday December 16, 2012 from 2-5 P.M. and 7-9 P.M.
Charles will receive Military Honors at his burial at Long Island National Cemetery on Monday December 17, 2012.
In lieu of flowers donations to the American Cancer Society in Memory of Charles F. Stevens would be appreciated.
