Theodore (Ted) Richard Hecht Sr., aged 87, of Woodbury, MN (formerly long-time resident of St. Paul, MN), passed away Saturday, August 20th, 2022, surrounded by his wife and children. Ted was born to Jacob and Josephine Hecht in St Paul MN, where he lived on the East Side for much of his life. He graduated from Johnson High School and Hamline University in St Paul. He married Pauline (Polly) Casper in 1963, whom he loved dearly every day of his life. He served his country as an officer in the Minnesota National Guard and continued to serve the community as a social worker in the childcare and foster care departments of Ramsey County for over 35 years. Ted was a dedicated volunteer throughout his life, from earning his Eagle Scout rank to many years of service to multiple organizations, including the Red Cross, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, East Side Neighborhood Development Company, St. Paul’s District 5, and the Payne-Arcade Business Association (where he received the Brucker Award to recognize his volunteer contributions including organizing the Harvest Festival Parade for many years). Ted and Polly enjoyed 16 years of wintering in Arizona where Ted was an active member of the Tower Point Men’s Club where he volunteered for local organizations and organized the yearly parade. Ted was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Woodbury, MN, where enjoyed singing in the choir.
Ted is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Pauline (Casper) Hecht, children Barbara Hecht (Richard Cash), Patti Hecht-Kressly, and Theodore (Ted) Hecht Jr (Dana), grandchildren Abigail Snouffer, Jacob Snouffer, Joshua Kressly (Sarah), and Alex and Katie Hecht, brother Joseph Hecht, and many dear friends and family members.
Visitation will be WEDNESDAY, August 24, 2022 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Wulff Woodbury Funeral Home, 2195 Woodlane Dr., Woodbury, MN 55125.
Mass of Christian Burial will be THURSDAY, August 25, 2022 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to service from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at St. Ambrose of Woodbury, 4125 Woodbury Dr., Woodbury, MN 55129. Lunch will immediately follow the mass at church. Interment Cottage Grove Cemetery, Cottage Grove, MN.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests donating to a charity of your choice in honor of Ted’s legacy of giving.
