Steve graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where he studied English and film. Always restless and eager to try new things, he pursued many different jobs including video production, writing, health care, business owner, and even grocery store baker. But later in life, it was a love of gardening and photography that caught his attention. A camera or binoculars were never far from reach as he captured nature in the changing seasons. He had a knack for catching a leaping fox or a bird in flight and adding a story to the image on his Facebook/NextDoor page. Wherever he lived or worked, he made friends immediately. He genuinely loved listening to people’s stories and helping them when he could, and he loved the Lord.
Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Rona, sons: David (Rachel Slavik) Porter and Daniel (Monica Resendez) Porter; brother: Jack (Sharon) Porter; sister: Jennifer (David) Kenyon, and stepmom, Carol Porter. He was dearly loved by his stepchildren Jay Ackerman, Stacie (Chris) Whiteside, Marnee (Zach) Lovering, Megan (Ryan) Prail,10 step grandchildren, and two step great-grandchildren. '
He’s preceded in death by his parents, Melba “Jean” and Hugh Porter.
