Roy was born February 27, 1931 to Roy H. and Allie (Fjaer) Erickson on a rural Rollag, Minnesota farm. The surprise was that he was joined by a twin brother. He graduated from Hawley High School in 1949. After discharge from the Air Force, he attended NDSU in Fargo, North Dakota where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Roy was united in marriage on March 23, 1956 to Betty Brenna at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen, Minnesota. Together, they raised one son and six daughters, with moves to Kansas, and Utah, before finally settling in Woodbury.
Roy would be the first to say that he lived a good long life. He was so proud of his family, and despite his Minnesotan stoicism, made sure that we knew it. We were proud of him as well: he served in the Armed Forces during the Korean War, had a very satisfying career at 3M, was an active member of Lutheran Church of Peace, and maintained an insatiable curiosity and desire to learn throughout his life. Both he and Betty were sports enthusiasts, cheering on favorite teams from the junior high school to professional levels.
He was preceded in death by wife Betty, son Randal, brother Robert, and sisters Audrey and Grace.
He will be greatly missed by daughters Lori Schmidt (Helmut), Liz Erickson (Brian Raney), Lydia McKay (Steve), Lea Brynestad (Dave), Lynne Erickson, and Luanne Anderson, along with his greatest legacy- his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother Wayne (Phyllis) Erickson, sister-in-law Lila Erickson, brother-in-law Clair (Bonnie) Brenna, sister-in-law Kari Myhre (Gary), and many nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10am on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Lutheran Church of Peace, 47 Century Ave S, Maplewood. Interment at Union Cemetery, Maplewood.
Memorials may be made in Roy's name to Lutheran Church of Peace.
Rest in Peace Grandpa Roy, we love you.
