Of Saint Paul
Passed away peacefully on Sunday December 20, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife Renzella (Dahlstrom); parents, Nels and Ruth; sister, Majel Secrest; and other friends and family who are dearly missed. Robert is survived by his daughter, Rhonda (Joe) Lundak; son, Dan Holmberg; brothers, Merlin (Joan) Holmberg and Duane (Barb) Holmberg; and many special friends and relatives. Robert was born in Hendrickson Township near Laporte, MN. His family moved to the Twin Cities when he was 3 years old. He lived most of his life on the east side of Saint Paul and he graduated from Harding High School in 1954. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and served 2 years of active duty. He went on to serve as a member of the United States Army Reserves discharging with the rank of Staff Sargent in 1977. Robert worked for the US Postal Service for 32 years spending many of those years as a Window Clerk at the Dayton’s Bluff station. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, and spending time with his family. Robert lost the love of his life to cancer in 2000. Most of Robert's 23 years of retirement were spent in Dunedin, FL or Laporte, MN and he loved to be outdoors and found a new passion of walking and taking pictures. He lived life to its fullest and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Robert had a knack for making people laugh and smile and that continued until his final days. In recent years, Robert battled with Alzheimer's disease. He was fortunate to meet many selfless and caring people on this journey. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Twin Rivers Memory Care in Cannon Falls, Dr. Holm and his staff at Bethesda Hospital, the staff at HealthPartners, Woodwinds Hospital, Woodbury Health Care Center and HealthEast Hospice for their excellent care of our father. We would also like to thank our friends and family who have been by our side during this difficult time. Visitation will be Monday, December 28 from 4-7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Wulff Woodbury Funeral Home, 2195 Woodlane Dr., Woodbury. Private Interment at Union Cemetery.
