Art was born February 20, 1938 in Wood Lake, Minnesota. He died Sunday, December 24, 2017 in Woodbury, Minnesota. He was 79 years old.
Art was baptized at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Posen Township, Minnesota on March 27, 1938. He was confirmed in his faith at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Wood Lake, Minnesota on May 4, 1952.
Art attended Wood Lake area schools, graduating in 1956. He earned his Associate of Arts degree from Concordia College, St. Paul, Minnesota in December 1960. He then went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Concordia College, River Forest, Illinois in May, 1963.
It was during his senior year at Concordia that he met the love of his life, Lois Horn of Red Wing, Minnesota. Art & Lois were joined in Holy Matrimony on July 4, 1964. Art spent 35 years as a Lutheran grade school teacher and principal, serving at Redemption Lutheran School, Bloomington, Minnesota; Trinity Lutheran School, Janesville, Minnesota; and Prince of Peace Lutheran School, Spring Lake Park, Minnesota. He was a beloved teacher to many children over the years. He held numerous leadership positions with the Minnesota South synod of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, including member of the Board of Directors (1986-1994) and Chairman of the Minnesota South Principals’ Conference (1984). He also served on the Board of Directors for Camp Omega in Waterville, Minnesota.
Art was a member of Woodbury Lutheran Church, and was a long-time resident at Presbyterian Homes’ Echo Ridge community, giving of his time to serve and visit with fellow residents there. He also spent many hours attending his grandkids’ soccer, baseball and basketball games, swim meets, as well as choir, violin and guitar concerts, enjoying every minute. Art was also active in Bible Study Fellowship in his later years, and was blessed to attend with his sons and grandsons.
Art is survived by Lois, his Wife of 53 years; Children Kim (Todd) O’Heron of Franklin, TN; Terry (Maren) Plath of Woodbury, Minnesota; and Timothy (Karen) Plath of Woodbury, Minnesota; Grandchildren Michael, Samuel and Emma O’Heron; Grace, Joshua, Lily and Micah Plath; Tyler and Matthew Plath; Sisters Elaine Bruss of Aitkin, Minnesota; Lalah Bahn of Wood Lake, Minnesota; and LaDonna (Norm) Benson of Waconia, Minnesota; Brother William (Joy) Plath of Sacramento, California; and many loving Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, Arthur Sr. and Edith (Markgraf) Plath.
