ROMANOW, on Sunday, May 15th, 2011 Romana Romanow, Regina, Saskatchewan and formerly of Glenavon, Sask. died suddenly in the Regina General Hospital. Romana was born in Nyzankouychi, Ukraine February 23, 1924 she came to Canada in 1930 with her mother Julia and brother Joseph where they settled in Glenavon. She completed her high school education in Glenavon and then married Dan Romanow in 1942. They first lived in Atwater, then Candiac and finally settled in Glenavon in 1952. They had six children, five sons and one daughter. Romana was a homemaker and also was the caretaker for the TD Bank for twenty years. She loved curling and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, quilting and playing cards.
Romana was predeceased by her husband Dan, parents Frank and Julia, brothers Joe and John, a sister Emily and sons Peter and Rt. Rev. Mitrad Leonard Romanow. She is survived by her children; sons Myron (Janet), Larry (Marjorie) and Allan (Sandy); a daughter Donna (Len); a daughter in law Arlene; twenty three grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and their families. Romana is also survived by her brother Frank (Elaine) Grzenda, sisters in law Frances Grzenda, Janet Graham, Jeanette Kaczmarski, Bertha Romanow, Effie Romanow and Joyce (Aurel) Robert.
Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, May 19th, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1747 Toronto Street, Regina by the Rt. Rev. Vladimir Mudri and Monsignor Luzney. Prayers will be held in St.Basil’s Church Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place in Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Candiac, Sask.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Sisters of St. Joseph (Orphanage in Ukraine), 33 Valens Drive, Saskatoon, Sask.
