So sorry to hear that Professor Saxton was passed away. He was so kind, always speak slowly and organized. Although I'm not a student of his as I attended U of R since 2014 when professor has already retired, but luckily met him sometimes and he was one of my colleague's thesis defence committee members. Glad to met you and talked to you, and my highest respect to you.

My condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Larry Saxton.  I knew Larry as a colleague and after he retired, we often crossed paths walking around south Regina. We would stop to chat before continuing on our respective ways. He was a gentle soul and always a source of interesting anecdotes. Much missed!

I was very sad to hear of Larry's passing. While I was not an immediate colleague,  I was fortunate to cross paths with him as a junior professor while serving on a number of committees, including one Dean of Science search committee. In these interactions, I learned a great deal from Larry. I will always remember him as a kind and thoughtful individual, who always had peoples' best interests at heart. I know that Larry loved to talk and share stories, I always enjoyed these conversations; and I think this social aspect of him set him apart from many. All of us in the faculty of science (and wider university) will sincerely miss Larry!

Farewell, dear former colleague and forever friend. Fearless floor hockey player and wildly imaginative lunchtime  hearts player in grad school, he was dedicated to the University of Regina’s Computer Science Department. We lost track of Larry, likely about time he went into care, but the memory of times he shared with us so long ago hasn’t faded. Rest In Peace, dear soul.

I always looked up to my Uncle.He was the one that gave you the “cool” presents when we were young. I still have Mrs.Beasley. Even  though he lived out west , he was a great support for me when my dad passed . He would tell me stories of the brothers growing up and knew all the family history. . I will miss his letters,cards and him.

I am sad to hear of Larry's passing. I took CS 371, CS311 and CS470 from him in the mid-70s.  He had some interesting about jobs in he had in the Steel industry as a programmer. The test data he supplied for the RPG and Cobol programs in CS371 was probably from a job he had at Stelco, as there were a variety of ardox spikes in the data.  Having written COBOL and RPG programs in the industry, he offered a lot of real world experience about writing programs.  I remember one story he told about crossing a picket line to go to work. "I just told them I worked on payroll and they let me go through. " I enjoyed his classes and remembered his advice often when writing code, and especially, debugging other peoples code. Requiescat in pace, Larry.

It is so sad to hear the passing of Dr. Saxton. Larry was my mentor during my graduate study at the U of R.  Larry opened doors for so many international students like me. He was one of the bridges between west and east culture. Larry had a lot of patience for his students including 20+ revises of the thesis. He always gave positive feedback even with small progress. Larry liked detailed work including charts and datasets, and was fond of finding ways to improve them.  Larry gave amazing presentations for the audiences. He also gave practical suggestions on how to build a career through graduate study. Larry was so thoughtful, generous and kind. My sincere condolences to family and friends.


Although distance kept us from seeing each other as often as we all would have liked, we all have very fond memories when we were able to get together, especially at Christmas. Larry's presence always made these events all the more special. The notes made here, as well as through the University of Regina, have served as a wonderful reminder of what a special and remarkable man Larry was. He will be dearly missed by everyone.

Larry's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all of the wonderful and amazing staff at Wolseley Memorial Integrated Care Centre who cared for Larry so thoughtfully, particularly given the challenging circumstances of the last few years.

I was "bad at Math" until I met Dr. Saxton, whereupon I came to love it.  Too bad it took until the fourth year of college to meet him!   Hard to believe it's been 30 years since I had the privilege of hearing him lecture.

Walking our way from Whitmore Park to the university our paths often crossed. Larry was a great conversationalist interested in so many aspects of the university and of the world in general. He was kind, thoughtful and attuned to the viewpoints of others, values which served him well as an academic and a colleague. To all who loved and esteemed him I extend my most sincere condolences.

What a truly nice man and fixture at the U of R for many decades!  My sympathies to family.

Larry was a dear friend and neighbor. He was Uncle Larry to my kids and once rescued our cat from our furnace when I was at work. He spoke often of his brothers in the East and I could tell he loved them all.  Larry looked after my yard when I was laid up with a surgery and I looked after his place when he was teaching at various Universities over the years. Some of my fondest memories of Larry centred on the Saskatchewan Roughriders , he was a season ticket holder from 1972 onward we always dropped into Tumblers after the games for a post game beer. He will be missed by my family, so long old friend.


Larry sat behind a group of us for 30+ years at rider football games.
As you would know very analytical . He lived near me and I would run into him often at safeways, always chatting about those riders.
Really nice person to know. We will miss Larry.

I met Larry when he was the Co-Op supervisor and I was joining the program.  We soon became close friends and did many things together,  including playing slow pitch baseball in the university league,  going to Rider games and playing poker.  He was a great friend and will be greatly missed. 

Whenever I am back in Regina I make a point of wandering through the CS department out at UofR.  The last couple of times Larry was not there, and I missed him.  He had a good sense of humor, although sometimes I did not recognize when he was joking until I saw that gleam in his eye.  He will be missed.  My condolences to family and friends.


It is with great sadness that I heard of the passing of Dr. Saxton.  Larry was a mentor for me during both my undergraduate and graduate degrees at the U of R.  He had an amazing talent for lecturing and could present even the most challenging subjects in a way that made them easily understandable.  He had a way of presenting that was effortless, and it directly influenced my own style of presenting once I became a professor.  I enjoyed our many discussions as well as our many tennis matches. I will never forget his stories (he loved telling stories of his time at Waterloo), wisdom, humour, generousity, and kindness.  My sincerest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

My Uncle Larry would always come home to Ontario at Christmas time when we were growing up.   It was something I looked forward to.  I remember going to a buffet at The Beacon one year….. I was so excited as he stood with me as we travelled through the endless choices.  I thought I was so smart when I sampled a piece of cheese that turned out to be fancy cut pads of butter…… lol…. Uncle Larry laughed and laughed as a true Saxton would.  Some good memories for sure.  Regular Christmas greeting cards were shared as we all became adults. 
His life in Regina was important to him and clearly very valuable to so many people.  We knew he was happy.  The care he was given at the end of his life made family here feel he was in good hands.  

My husband Reinhold Fehler and I would like to offer our condolences.  Larry was across the hall from Reinhold at Lakeside Home in wolseley and also sat at the same table with Reinhold  for meals.   I usually joined them at the table to help Reinhold. Larry always acknowledged my presence with a gentle nod of his head. And a nod when I asked him how he was. He will be missed
