Audrey was born on January 9, 1933 on a cold winter’s night to Horace and Sarah Cassie Hartall on a farm near Craven, Sask. She was the middle child with two brothers. Even though she was Bill’s younger sister, she was always caring and watching out for him and of course, younger brother Doug.
The desire to take care of people carried into her adult life when she attended the Regina General Hospital School of Nursing and then worked at RGH for several years. When her father grew ill and required assistance, Audrey took it on herself to be his full-time caregiver until his passing in 1969.
In 1971, Audrey married the love of her life, Stan Smith of Abernethy, Sask. In 1975, the second love of her life, their son Robert (Bobby) was born. Stan and Audrey were full time farmers. Audrey was an active member of her community and church, helping with several functions throughout the years and became an Honourary Life Member of the Abernethy Agricultural Society.
Audrey devoted her time to loving and taking care of Stan and Bobby and in later years, Bobby’s big brown lovable dog, Cooper. After Bob moved to Shaunavon and Stan retired from active farming, they remained living in the farm house for quite a few years before moving to Balcarres, Sask. When Audrey became ill, the Balcarres Integrated Care Centre became her new home and extended family. After spending her life caring for others, she was finally the one being cared for. It was there that she passed away peacefully at the age of 89 with a family member by her side.
Audrey is survived by her sister-in-law Wanda (widow of Bill); nephew Blaine and Tracey (Brett and Nicholas), niece Cathy (Stephanie), niece Nancy and Paul (Trevor); sister-in-law Sherran (widow of Doug); nephew Bryan, niece Glenda and Trevor (Jayden and Noah); Stan’s brother Les and Margaret; nephew Paul and Susan (Matthew, Rachelle and Stephen), niece Melonee and Michael (Joshua and Emma) as well as extended family and friends.
Sadly, she was also predeceased by her husband, Stan; son Robert T. (Bob); twin sons at birth and sister-in-law Jeanne.
The family would like to thank the staff and medical team of the Balcarres Integrated Care Centre for the care and concern provided to Audrey.
A Graveside Service was held in the Abernethy Cemetery on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with officiant Pat Lyster.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memoriam may be made to the Balcarres Integrated Care Centre Recreational Fund, Box 340, Balcarres, SK S0G 0C0 or the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301-2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1.
