It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Alvin John Gallinger on February 19, 2020 at the age of 81. Alvin was born on July 14, 1938 in Central Butte Saskatchewan and spent his childhood in towns near Eyebrow, Mawer and Rosetown in Saskatchewan.
Alvin went to school at Kindersley High where he also lived in the dorm meeting lifelong friends and his future wife Eva Benjamin. After graduation, he joined the RCAF and went to military college taking engineering at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. Alvin took a leave from school to marry Eva in 1958 but later went back to complete his civil engineering degree in 1964.
Alvin began his career as a civil engineer working for the Bridge Branch, PFRA, and the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and eventually moved into a management position as General Manager of the Country Elevator Division. Later in his career, he worked as the CEO of New Careers as well as the Pipestone Health Care District. After retirement, Alvin kept very active in the Grenfell community as a member and board member to many associations including the Legion, Lions, Credit Union, Museum, Feedlot, Co-op and sat on town council.
Alvin and Eva spent the last 61 years together. They enjoyed a full and happy life, raising four children and 11 grandchildren. Alvin had many interests and was known to always have a dream project on the back burner. Alvin and Eva took great pride in the many renovation projects they took on - most notably their homes in Regina and Grenfell. An avid fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Alvin loved watching the Riders play and held season tickets for over three decades.
Alvin is survived by his children Cindy Clarke (Barry), Deborah Rayment (Alfred), Michelle James (Mark) and Michael Gallinger (Trishannah), by his grandchildren Daniel (Bruce), Christopher (Jenn), Miranda (Dujung), Madeline (Brett), Natasha (Riley), Megan, Thomas, Marah, Kali (Jason), Josh (Taylor) and Eli, along with cousins, nieces and nephews.
