Kenna Lou (Campbell) Hewitt entered into her heavenly home on May 31, 2023. She was born March 16, 1935 in Columbus, Ohio to Kenneth and Louella Campbell where she grew up in the farming community of Mt Sterling, Ohio. She was very active in her church and made friends who she has stayed in touch with to this present day.
Kenna was working as a secretary in a medical laboratory in Columbus, Ohio when she met Bob Hewitt. They were married on July 22, 1956 and resided in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. While living there, they doubled their family with the addition of two daughters, Carol and Beverly.
The Hewitt family moved to Winter Park, Florida in 1963 when Bob started working for Martin Marietta. Kenna was very active in their church, Aloma United Methodist Church. She counted money every Monday morning, was a Sunday school teacher, worked as a secretary at the Pre-school, volunteered at the rummage sale, worked in the kitchen for church functions and made many life-long friends in the Friendship Sunday school class.
She was very active in her daughters’ activities, being a Girl Scout leader and Cookie Mom as well as going on campouts. An accomplished seamstress, she made clothes for her daughters and taught them how to sew and do other crafts.
Kenna delivered Meals on Wheels which developed into a job at the Christian Service Center interviewing prospective clients. She worked at a neighbor’s market and for a friend who had a catering company from which she would come home with great stories and recipes.
Kenna and Bob had a love for the beach (especially Captiva Island) and the mountains of North Carolina. After Bob retired, they bought a cabin in the mountains where they spent many happy summers and made great friends.
Mom also had a great love for cats and dogs. While living in NC, she volunteered her time at a cat rescue called Catman 2, cleaning the rooms and feeding the residents. She would bring her family to visit and play with the cats while they were in town.
Kenna is survived by her daughters, Carol Austin (Ken), Beverly Ousley (Dave) and her granddaughters Megan Singleton and Holly Chandler (Joshua).
Kenna was a great wife, mother, grandmother, friend and teacher. She will be greatly missed.
