George was born June 11, 1932, in Mason City, Iowa to the late George Thomas and Mae Julia Weir. He married the love of his life, Patricia Sue DeWalle on May 5, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. George was a veteran and served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He retired as a technician from Northwestern Bell / AT&T after 37 years of service.
George is survived by his wife, Patricia, and his three children, Laura L. DeFoor (Charles), Cameron G. Weir (Tracey) and Douglas S. Weir. He is also survived by his sister, Joan (Donald) Strube. Additionally, his seven grandchildren, Megan Halaychik (Brandon), Olivia, Jared, and Candice DeFoor, Austin and Taylor Weir, and Blayne Weir, and his three great-grandchildren, Jackson DeFoor, Vincent and Mila Halaychik.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and was known by many children through the years as “grandpa”.
George was a very devout Catholic and member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church for over 47 years, where he served as an usher and received the Order of Saint Charles.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, July 13, 2020, at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, followed by a Funeral Mass Service at 11:00 A.M. with Father Ralph DuWell of Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco, Iowa.
Arrangements are being handled by Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, in George’s name.
