My Omega Brother David " Future" Closson--
Our spirits met at Lincoln University in 1961. Thats sixty years ago. We pledged  Bloody Beta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi  there together. Our line was titled " The Roaring 19". We crossed the Burning Sands together in 1962. I admired your genius, your poetry but most importantly your knowledge regarding African spirituality , history and ancestors .  Everyone enjoyed our deep discussions regarding the  spiritual world. We  partied hard  together, sang together all the Omega songs, and drank  too much wine ( you called  it the nectar from the Gods) .. When you met and married Rosemary you did the very best thing you  have ever done  in your life. We all were smitten by her beauty and spirit . The perfect  life's mate  for you. The two of you loved each other so much you were like  a hand and gloves together. Later in life  both of you blessed our home visiting  Sylvia and I in Atlanta . We also enjoyed a Lincoln  Homecoming  together with Bro Calvin Morris. Your writings in the book  "An Unfailing Legacy "published in 2012 --tells our story of rabble  , struggle and how Lincoln shaped us for the future.. this is a must read for everyone .You will always be the King of Rabble as depicted in the book. I will always cherish my time with you. May you beat your drums of joy releasing your wonderful spirit in the heavens . You will be truly missed but never forgotten  . I have never had such a friend like you in my life . We have all   been truly blessed-by your spirit and love---

I am truly sorry for your loss. Dr. Closson was a cool brotha. Glad I had the opportunity and to meet and speak with him. My condolences to the family.

Dear Rosemary, Maisha, Tene and family, 
We are sorry to hear of David’s passing. Our
 family will sorely miss his wonderful stories, wry humor and compassion. I remember that he took me to my first Spike Lee films. What an adventure that was. And that yellow Mercedes…I worried about him driving the back roads of Florida in that car.  But God was watching, always. Our last get together we’re at the Baha’i summer school and what great conversations we had at meal times. Forever in our prayers- Kim, Gary and Heather

David was a true servant!  When my kids were little he and Rosemary welcomed us into their home several times on our visits to the pediatric clinic at UF.  Later he brought his drums to Belle Glade to teach unity.  As he takes his place in the next world he will be watching over his family and all who loved him.

I remember as a kid going to Gainesville and hearing is drums. It was always so exciting for me. Blessings and comfort to you and your family at this time. You will be in my prayers.

Dear Closson Family,

I greatly admired David's dignity and quiet respect for others. Students who went to Lincoln University with him called him "Future" (I think) back then, a nickname I heard from them before I ever met him. Then I became a Baha'i in 1990 and met him at a Black Men's Gathering, where he was the master drummer in drum circles. I last spent time with him at Junior's Restaurant in Brooklyn about ten years ago when he came with Willis Burris on his book tour for "The Man I Love," Willis's memoir honoring his father. David's a is a life well-lived, a husband, father, scholar, and friend who also deserves to be honored. I send my condolences to everyone whose years he graced.--Charles H. Lynch

Dear Closson family,
Please accept my sympathy with you for the loss of David.I met David at Lincoln University as a fellow freshman.I had the privilege of being invited to his home where I learned of the Bahai faith.We shared many experiences as line brothers pledged to Omega Psi Phi.We last met at our 50th class reunion and it was a pleasure to see him after so many years.I'll never forget him.

Sorry to hear of the passing of my classmate, David Closson.  We were students together at Lincoln University.  Dave often wore a black beret, and he played the bongos.  Dave was from West Chester, PA, and I was from nearby Coatesville.  May God bless the Closson Family.
