Bob N. Williams of Orlando, Fl. affectionately known as "Hey Boy" in his teaching and coaching circles passed away July 8, 2014 at 75 years of age. Transplanted from his birthplace in Dalhart, TX., to Arkansas, Bob launched his football career at Bentonville High School and was soon recognized as an All-State Quarterback. Bob was then offered a full football scholarship to the University of Arkansas. Bob played in the 1961 Cotton Bowl Classic along with Lance Alworth and was led by legendary coach Frank Broyles.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education, Bob held many positions including Teacher, Coach, and Athletic Director over a monumental 41 year career. Bob began his coaching career in Arkansas and then moved to Florida where he coached football at Apopka High School and many dedicated years at Colonial High School. He earned a Masters Degree at Florida Technological University now UCF. Bob was dedicated to his job, students, athletes, faculty, admininstration, booster clubs and community. His efforts were blessed with numerous awards and honors including serving as State Treasurer for the Florida Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association from 1979-1986. In 1984, the FIAAA awarded Bob the Florida Athletic Director of the Year. In 1982, Bob was awarded "Coach of the Year" by Orange County Metro Conferance. He was nominated for the Central Florida Valor Award in 1971 and Inducted into the first Colonial High School Hall of Fame in 2006. Bob wrote an innovative article about his " Flexible Monster Defense", which was published in Scholastic Coach Magazine. The article was republished in a volume titled "Scholastic Coach Magazines top 20 Articles" along with great coaches such as Hank Stram and Vince Lombardi. In his spare time he enjoyed playing handball, fishing and watching sports events.
Bob is survived by his wife Brenda of 55 years, son Craig Williams, daughter Kristen White and her husband Steve, daughter Gina Dougherty and her husband Paul, four grandchildren, William White, Andrew White (deceased), Ian and Ella Dougherty, his brother Joe Williams, his sisters Margaret Harbert and Jean Williams. He was a wonderful father, a trusting friend and a mentor to many. His smile and loving heart will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
