Shawn Patrick McKinney, Captain, US Army Ret., of Winter Garden, FL born in Charleston, WV on May 4, 1969, and passed away on October 12, 2018. Shawn received his degree from UCF in Environmental Engineering, and served his country proudly in the United States Army as a Combat Engineer prior to his retirement. He served in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan).
Shawn was Catholic by his faith. Family was the joy of his life and he was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He enjoyed cycling, which he shared with his daughter and niece Hope McKinney.
Shawn is survived by his loving wife, Julie McKinney; his daughter, Eryn McKinney; his parent, George and Rosa McKinney; his brothers and sisters: Wendi Chernutan, George McKinney, Ginger McKinney, Benjamin Oxley, Cathy Pennington, Jim Stoneking; his in laws: John and Judy Bleecker, and by his best friend and companion Drogo. Shawn was preceded in death by his mother, Claudette MacDonald McKinney.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 18 from 6 – 8 PM at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Winter Garden, Florida. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 19 at 9:30 AM at Annunciation Catholic Church in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Interment with military honors will be held on Friday, October 19, 1:30 PM, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
