Jim was born on February 9, 1946 in Raleigh, North Carolina to Vera Mae Pearce Collins and Rosser Lee Collins.
He graduated from North Carolina State University, received his MBA from East Carolina University, and earned his DBA in accounting from the University of Tennessee. During a two-year tour of duty with the United States Army, he served as a Chaplain Assistant and organist in Vietnam.
Jim had a rewarding career teaching accounting at Texas A&M University, East Carolina University, and the University of Tennessee. After teaching as a college professor and prior to his retirement in 2010, he decided to pursue a different professional career path accepting a position in Wealth Management with Wells Fargo.
Jim is survived by his wife, Bobbie L. Collins; brother-in-law, Albert A. Lamons; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Sarah C. Gaskins and Elizabeth C. Green.
