Elizabeth Lee Trotter Dixon died on April 29, 2023, at Atrium-Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after a courageous battle with metastatic melanoma over the last 10 months. In spite of the challenges she faced from this cruel disease, Lee left this world with the same positive mantra that guided her through this difficult time: “No Bad Days!”
Lee was born in Greensboro, NC, the daughter of Elizabeth Anne Cooper “Betty Anne” Trotter and Wilson Davis Trotter. She met Richard Williams Dixon, the love of her life, in 1977 while double-dating other people. Lee and Richard were married in 1984 and moved to Winston-Salem in 1991.
Lee attended Greensboro Day School and Guilford County public schools and was a graduate of Page High School in Greensboro, St. Mary’s Junior College in Raleigh, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Lee made her debut at the Terpsichorean Club of Raleigh and the Greensboro Debutante Club. She worked for many years at Trotter Brothers Flooring in Greensboro with her brothers Cooper and Hunter, and was also a dental practice manager in Winston-Salem. She retired from Trotter Brothers in 2018 to become a nanny for her grandchildren, who knew her as “Glee.”
Lee was preceded in death by her parents, her most special and adored grandmother, Lucile Seaton Cooper “Gan,” and her brother Davis Trotter. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Richard, daughter Dr. Elizabeth Corbin, son-in-law Will Corbin, grandchildren James and Parker Corbin, son Rich Dixon and fiancée Lucila Cefola, and brothers Cooper Trotter (wife Betty) and Hunter Trotter. Lee also leaves behind many beloved cousins, in-laws, and nieces and nephews, plus friends so numerous that medical facilities had to look the other way when regularly confronted with many more visitors than their policies allowed.
Lee’s generosity and her love for others knew no bounds. She always stepped up to help before even being asked, and she never knew the word “no” when there was an opportunity to volunteer or help. She was a PTA volunteer at her children’s schools, as well as a Stephen Minister, Altar Guild, Circle Nine member, and Sunday School teacher at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Junior League in both Greensboro and Winston-Salem and was a Meals-on-Wheels delivery driver for Senior Services.
Lee was a remarkable and selfless friend to so many. She dearly cared for her school, church, work and volunteer friends, as well as her neighbors in Sherwood Forest and Greenmeadow Lakes and her bridge and garden club friends. She also had a very special place in her heart for the Luasions of Greensboro, who affectionately carried on her childhood nickname “Lee Lee”, her St. Mary’s and UNC gang, and loved her family, the Tarheels, the beach, the mountains, and shopping for shoes.
A funeral service will be held at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 4, with a reception to follow at the home of Dr. Elizabeth Corbin. In honor of Lee, please wear bright colors or something fun. She always said she didn’t want us wearing black!
