Bessie was born on August 9, 1949 in Forsyth County to the late Moir Lee Bowman and Molene Lawson Bowman. She worked as a seamstress making draperies and doing upholstery for over 30 years, working for companies at the beginning of her career and then branching out on her own.
Bessie loved gardening and had a green thumb. She was proud of how big the roses in her garden would grow and always looked forward to tomato-growing season. Bessie also had a deep love for animals, especially dogs.
She was strong-willed and fiercely independent, a caring mother, an attentive grandmother, an affectionate aunt, and a loving sister. She will truly be missed.
Bessie leaves behind her sons, Brad (Erin) Collins and Scott (Bethany) Collins; grandchildren, John Collins (Sara), Katy Collins, and Reece Collins; sisters, Mary Kennedy, Peggy (Robert) Hughes, and Lorene Sapp; special niece, Samantha (Scott) Burkhart; as well as many other nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 13th at 3pm at Vogler Funeral & Cremations at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for visitation at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the ASPCA or Meals on Wheels of Forsyth County.
