Bernadette was born May 23, 1952 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Philip and Joan Chamberlin, and was one of five daughters.
She moved to Houston, Texas at the age of 8, and excelled at whatever she put her mind to. She decided early in her life on a career in Nursing, and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman's University in 1974, and her MSN in 1980. She worked as both a rehabilitation nurse clinician and a kidney transplant coordinator, always with tremendous compassion and kindness, both to her patients and her fellow staff members. Bernadette also served her country as an active duty Major with the Army Nurse Corps.
She was the most happy when surrounded by her family and friends, and she was in her element when gardening, watching her beloved birds, or when she traveled, especially to the Blue Ridge Mountains or the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Her family was her strength, and her love and devotion to them was total and unconditional. She was always a joy to be around, and the courage and strength she demonstrated in the last 12 years was without equal.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 50 years, Jeffrey; two loving sons, Philip and Andrew; two daughters-in-law, Amanda and Amber; two beautiful granddaughters, Faye (8) and Olivia (4); two sisters, Diane Galvin and Amy Wood; a sister-in-law, Anna Teran; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 18th from 5PM to 8PM at Vogler Funeral and Cremations, 3815 Yadkinville Road, Winston-Salem, NC. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 335 Springdale Ave, Winston-Salem, NC on Thursday, September 19th at 11:00AM. Committal will follow at 1:00PM in Forsyth Memorial Park.
