September 3, 1948 – April 8, 2020
It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Bill with his wife Wendy by his side after a long courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Bill was born in Buckingham, Quebec on September 3rd, 1948 and lived there until the family moved to Ottawa when he was 15. In 1969 he joined the RCMP. After completing basic training in Regina, Bill was sent to Whitehorse, Yukon in the Spring of 1970. Here he met Wendy the love of his life. They were married in June 1972 and spent 6 years in Drumheller and 1 year in Magrath Alberta before Bill left the RCMP in 1979. He & Wendy spent 10 years in Winnipeg then 21 years in Lake of the Woods/Kenora area where Bill worked for Canada Post. Here Bill could work a full day then go home and fish right in his back yard. The perfect day!
Bill’s last years were spent in Winnipeg in Assisted Living at Devonshire House from 2010-2013 with Wendy and at River East Personal Care Home from 2014-2020.
Bill is lovingly remembered for his laughter and wit, his smile and his love of activities that always involved family & friends. He shared his love of hunting, camping, fishing and the outdoors with many generations. Best memories for many of us include how he taught us to camp, build a fire, catch & clean a fish, hunt and enjoy the outdoors.
You know you had a full life when those of us who got to learn from and love Bill realize now how much our younger generation will miss out by not having Bill in their lives.
Many thanks to the wonderful home care staff, friends and family who supported Bill through his journey with Parkinsons both in Kenora and Winnipeg. A special thank you to all the amazing staff at River East PCH for all their kindness, caring and support over the last 6 years.
In lieu of flowers you can do an act of kindness or make a donation to a charity of your choice to support families in need during this difficult time.
