Thomas Arthur Harrington Richardson

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Arthur Harrington Richardson. He was born on June 24, 1939, to Ethel Maud and Arthur Richardson at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Tom was the youngest of four children and had three older sisters.

He passed on October 20, 2023, at the age of 84 years old. He left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Richardson (nee Noble), children Trish (Mike), Tim (Lisa), and Genevieve (Cale), grandchildren Alexandra, Abigail and Jace. He is survived by his nieces and nephews Kathryn Molloy, David Smith, Carol Brockelhurst, Maureen Smith, Brian Lockyer, Pam Lockyer, Jocelyn Lockyer, Randall Kinley and Daryll Kinley. He is pre-deceased by his sisters Kathleen Smith, Margaret Lockyer, and Muriel Kinley as well as, his Mother and Father in law John and Nora Noble. He is also pre-deceased by his lifelong friend, Bob Gregg. Tom was very close to his sisters and many nieces and nephews for his entire life. Many of his nieces and nephews looked up to Tom as an older brother.

Tom grew up in the Wolseley neighborhood in Winnipeg attending Laura Secord School and Gordon Bell High School before obtaining his CPA designation in the field of accounting. He spent most of his career working for James Richardson & Sons.

Tom met Margaret at the Winnipeg Badminton Club before their marriage in 1970. Tom and Margaret eventually settled in to their Southdale home in 1972 where they lived for 51 years and raised their family. He was a proud parent who wanted each of his children to follow their own path. He took Trish to synchronized swimming, Tim to hockey rinks, and Gen to horseback riding. Every winter he found the time to build and maintain a backyard hockey rink and it was used by many friends, family and kids in the neighborhood.

Tom had a passion for racquet sports, especially tennis and badminton. He spent many happy years at the Winnipeg Canoe Club. He was also proud to play with friends as a member of the Midnight Flyers hockey team.

Tom was a proud and loving Grandfather who took immense joy in watching his grandkids grow up. He spent many hours pulling his grand-daughters around the many snow paths in his backyard in a sled.

Tom and Margaret spent many summers at the family’s Victoria Beach cottage where they enjoyed time with friends and family and would often be hosting a dinner or social gathering. As an avid bike rider, Tom would often be seen on the avenues of Victoria Beach on his bike making his rounds to connect with friends and line-up the next tennis match.

He was an active and well-known member of the Victoria Beach tennis community and welcomed players of all skill levels into the tennis community and was always up for game. He made many contributions to the Victoria Beach Club and earned an award resulting from his involvement as Treasurer during the initial expansion of the tennis courts.

He was deeply caring and always had time to help someone in need. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him and he will be greatly missed by many.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the kind staff at River Park Gardens in his final years.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 30, 2023 at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway where we will gather to celebrate Tom’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba and River Park Gardens.
