RUKHMIN RAMRATTAN (n SAWH), 81 years, of Winnipeg, passed away on July 18, 2024. She was born on January 3, 1943 in Windsor Forest, Guyana to Mohabir and Bipia Sawh.
Rukhmin is survived by her daughters Javitri (Sunil) and Narini (Kripaul); by her sons Mahendra (Susan), Roy (Zena), Rajen (Saudia) and Ray (Neeti); by her grand children Chris, Kevin, Ashley, Julianna, Vanessa, Vian and Dravin; by her brother Balobeer Sawh (Edna); and by her sisters-in-law Rookmin Jabar (the late Hamid Jabar), Mahadai (the late Hanubeer Sawh), Paulette Ramrattan (the late Mohan Ramrattan) and by numerous nieces and nephews. Rukhmin was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years Jodhan Ramrattan; by her sister Dhan Surajlall, brothers Ragubeer, Sookbir, Chandrabeer, Santabeer and Hanubeer.
Rukhmin also affectionately known as Datta lived in Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara until she married Jodhan in 1961, then lived briefly in Utivlught before making Meten Meer Zorg home. Together the family grew with their six children. Rukhmin vacationed in Winnipeg in 1974 and 1978, eventually making Winnipeg home for her family in 1982.
Rukhmin dedicated herself to her family, ensuring the house was always filled with love, comfort and warmth. Her most basic instinct was to be nurturing, not only to her own children and grandchildren, her commitment was beyond her immediate household as she maintained close relationships with nieces, nephews, and their children.
She cherished the title of Agi, Nani and Grandma and every moment she spent with her grandchildren were cherished. She was Grandma to many.
Mom has left a legacy of love, compassion and caring and she left knowing that her legacy will endure through generations after her. Family togetherness was the most valued time for Rukhmin, phone calls from her immediate and extended family living afar were precious to her.
Mom will be remembered for being quietly strong, she will be remembered for her cooking, her love for reading and puzzles and lately her addiction to candy crush. She will be remembered for her commitment to her Arya Samaj faith.
A funeral service will be held at Thomson “In the Park” on July 22, 2024 at 9:45am, viewing will precede the service starting at 9:15am.
