Roberta Audrey Richardson

Our mom was a wonderful woman and a fabulous (somewhat daunting) role- model. She was funny, quick-witted, wise, smart, kind, energetic and generous. Mom was perpetually organized in all things, an excellent cook, entertainer extraordinaire, talented sewer and knitter, stylish dresser, accomplished homemaker, a valued colleague at the U of Manitoba, awesome poker and blackjack player, a dedicated golfer, tap dancer, world traveler, a true blue girlfriend, a fan of exercise classes and lunches with ladies, most famous for her loud, infectious laugh which was shared often and her legendary, majestic (most unladylike) burps which delighted her grandchildren!

Born in Fort William, Ontario on groundhog day in 1933 to Aileen (nee Halonen) and Ted (Edward) Phillips and older sister to Patti (Patricia Eleanor) (all deceased).....passed away peacefully in her sleep May 14, 2022 at River Park Gardens, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Mom and Dad (Frank) were high school sweethearts and eloped on Sept 1, 1951. They had three daughters, Karen Rae in 1953, Terryl Dawn in 1954 and Lynda Frances in 1967 (We called Lynda our Centennial Project) when they moved to Winnipeg where they raised their family in Fort Garry.

Mom enjoyed a long and rewarding career as an Administrator at the University of Manitoba, working in various faculties until she found her niche in the Plant Science Department where she was highly regarded by staff, professors, and students. Upon her retirement in 1990, it was remarked "Who knew BOTH Iron Ladies would retire in the same year? Besides the lifelong friendships developed there, a working trip to Kenya was a memorable highlight.

Mom leaves behind her '3 birds' as dad refers to us, 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and Frank, husband of 70 years who was the center of her universe, always.

We would like to acknowledge here the unfailing help and support over the years of Cindy Hogue, a childhood friend of Terry's, for her caring of both mom and dad like a fourth daughter. And the only family in Winnipeg, a dear grandson, Adam Corley, who has been our eyes and ears, running errands, faithfully visiting, and adjusting umpteen clocks after every time change. Also, a nod to River Park Gardens where mom SO luckily landed in Sept of 2020 and all the efforts made to have dad join her there a year ago....we appreciate all of you..

Cremation has taken place. A Remembrance/Celebration Service will be held at a later date. Should you like to be notified, please leave your contact info with Karen at 1 289 337-9050. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice in Bobbie's memory is an option or just a small toast the next time you have a glass of wine, a g&t, or a rye on the rocks with just a splash of water...

You are a hard act to follow, mom. We'd say we love you more, but that would be untrue......K.T.& L.
