Maureen (Mary) O'Rourke

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our mom and Nana in the early hours of March 31, 2022, at the age of 92.

Mom is survived by her daughters Sandra (John) and Janet; grandchildren, Sara (Trevor), Brianna, Colin, Derrick, Kieron, Molly, and Lily; great-grandchildren, Zoë and Brady, and extended family. Mom was predeceased by her husband Billie in 1981, brother Tony and sisters Bridie and Rita.

Mom was born on May 24, 1929, in Dublin, Ireland to Cathrine and John O'Reilly. While attending a dance, she met her husband, Billie; they wed on June 1, 1955, and raised their two daughters together. They immigrated with their young family to Canada in 1976 to start a better life.

After five short years in Canada Billie sadly passed away. This was a struggle for Mom as a newcomer to Canada, but she persevered as she was a strong, independent woman. Mom exhibited those strengths until her last days.

Mom enjoyed volunteering at the Victoria General Hospital, having tea with her friends in the Zellers restaurant and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also an exceptional baker, a beautiful knitter and made holidays very special.

Mom enjoyed reminiscing of her times in Ireland. She loved travelling back home to visit her family and friends; her heart was always in Ireland.

In her later years she enjoyed the simple pleasures of sitting in the garden, having a cup of tea, going for walks, visiting with Irene and Lorraine, and spending time with her family. Her grandchildren brought her happiness and joy; her face would light up when she saw them.

The last five years Mom lived at Riverwood Square Retirement Living; the family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff for their devoted caregiving that Mom received.

We also want to thank WRHA homecare and the staff at Victoria General Hospital for their care.

We will miss you and you will always be in our hearts.

A private family service for Mom will take place.
