Marianne is survived by her husband Donald Berry; her brother Bernie and sister-in-law Marg Neufeld; children Vic and (Kathy) Pankratz, Doug and (Val) Pankratz, Rennie and (John) Fast; her stepchildren Lesley and (Kerrie) Griffith and Stephen Berry; her grandchildren David and Jason Pankratz, Michael, Derek, Lindsey and Jonathan Pankratz; Alanna, Heather and Meghan Fast; step-grandchildren Matthew and Nicole Berry; and her great grandchildren Robinson, Leo and Isla Pankratz, Vida Francesca Pankratz Garrido, and Hudson Pankratz and many nieces and nephews.
Marianne was raised on a farm near Whitewater, Manitoba. She had many fond memories of her life there, including a variety of chores such as milking cows, sweeping floors, and fetching wood. Going to school involved a three mile trek on a horse drawn carriage and in winter a brick heated sleigh. Free time on the farm was often spent playing with her younger brother Bernie. Marianne spent many of her Saturdays attending German School, and on Sunday going to church with her family. After graduating from the Mennonite Collegiate Institute (MCI) in Gretna, Marianne moved to the big city of Winnipeg.
Marianne started work at Eaton’s and moved on to work as an office manager at several different companies. In the city she enjoyed participating in a number of activities such as singing in choirs, conducting a children’s choir, playing baseball, and coaching baseball.
In the mid 1990’s, Marianne and Don moved to Arnes Manitoba, where she enjoyed gardening, golfing, floor curling, and travelling. Marianne was a wonderful cook who enjoyed preparing and serving food to friends and family.
In 2009 they moved to Sidney BC, on Vancouver Island. Marianne volunteered at local thrift stores, joined the A.N.A.F. Unit 302 Sidney, where she was president of the Women’s Auxiliary. Here she helped organize and prepare food for Celebrations of Life. Many good times were spent playing cards, crib, and visiting with friends.
In the spring of 2021, Marianne and Don took an enjoyable train ride from Vancouver to Winnipeg. Here once again, they made Winnipeg their home and were looking forward to spending time with family and friends.
The family wishes to thank all the of the medical professional that provided care for Marianne, in particular the staff at the MICU.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Marianne's name to St James Legion #4 or The Mennonite Central Committee.
