On June 15, 2011 Ivy Stewart passed away at the Tuxedo Villa personal care home in Winnipeg at the age of 104.
Ivy was born in Winnipeg January 9, 1907 to her parents Oscar and Louise Thornton Simmons.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son Dale (Linda), sister Ruby T. Simmons and grandchildren Krista (Glen), Dean (Tammy) and Barb (Alton), special friend Tara and great grandchildren Brooke, Holly, Emily, Katie, Cole, Matthew, Hannah, Jonah and Lia.
Ivy was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Dale, and her brothers Leslie, LeRoy and Richards.
Mom enjoyed retirement winters with Dad in the southern United States and their summers at the cabin they built in the early 1950’s on Clearwater Bay, Ontario.
She was an active and proud member of The Order of the Eastern Star for over 60 years and an active member of The Daughters of The Nile for many years as well. Mom was an avid reader and an expert at sewing and knitting. She took a keen interest in her house plants and yard shrubs at home and at the cabin.
The family wishes to express their thanks for the compassionate care provided to Mom by the staff at Tuxedo Villa during the seven years she was with them and, particularly, during the past few weeks.
In keeping with Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held.
