On the evening of January 3, Elven Simcoe beloved husband of Vivian Simcoe went quietly home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 94.
Elven was blessed with many gifts. He played on the Isaac Newton High School Football Team and in 1946; the team won the High School Provincial Championship. He played a role on that championship winning team scoring the winning touchdown on an electrifying 96-yard touchdown run, defeating St. Paul’s High School. He went on to play with the Junior Weston Wildcats, St. John’s Grads, and the Winnipeg Rams.
Besides playing football, Elven also enjoyed playing the drums throughout his youth. Later, he would become part of the local Winnipeg Band Scene playing with the Blue Notes and the Off Beats focusing on music from the big band era. They even had time to produce a few records.
He began his early employment with the City of Winnipeg as a license inspector. He, along with his wife, Vivian, moved to Sacramento, California where he worked at Valley Electric Ltd. After three years, they returned to Winnipeg, where Elven gained employment at Allan Lyone Ltd.
As time passed, he decided to join his dad, William, in the construction business.
Finally, through the Lord’s calling and blessing, Elven was hired by the Continental Can Company of Canada where he rose to become Production Supervisor. He retired from Continental Can after 25 year of service.
Elven and his family loved to spend time at Grand Beach and later Albert beach, Manitoba. He and Vivian, along with Grandma Aleck, traveled to Norway to visit daughter, Leslie and family. Elven and Vivian also traveled to the Cayman Islands to visit son, Greg and his wife Darcy.
He was also born with the gift of entertaining. He had a comedic sense of humour and loved to make people laugh.
The most wonderful and amazing change in Elven was when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. His support and love for family grew and he became involved with the Evangelical Free Church where he and wife Vivian both were able to share and spread the love, grace, and mercy of Jesus Christ. Elven loved reading the Bible and was a shining light to those around him as he grew in his journey with the Lord.
Elven leaves to mourn his most devoted and loving wife, Vivian (nee Aleck) whom he married on July 30,1949; son, Gregory Elven (Darcy) of Grand Cayman; son in law, Terje Thingelstad; grandson, Kris Thingelstad (Camila); granddaughters, Kari Ellefsen (Christopher) and Lisa Thingelstad (Fred); great-grandchildren, Marcus, Sebastian and Thomas all of Norway.
Elven is predeceased by his daughter; Leslie Thingelstad; parents William and Dora; sister Mildred; brother Zane and his wife Olive, and nephew Raymand Simcoe.
Elven’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Boniface Hospital, Concordia Hospital, and Misericordia Hospital for their compassionate care and kindness.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.thomsoninthepark.com for the Simcoe family.
